Upcoming Book Release on Early Child Development

Posted: Mar 12, 2024

Drs. Boivin and Familiar contributed chapters in the book titled Growing up Resilient: The Mediational Intervention for Sensitizing Caregivers, edited by Drs. Carla Sharp and Lochner Marais from the University of Houston, TX and University of the Free State in South Africa, respectively.  Informed by a life-course developmental framework of early childhood and development, this volume discusses an approach to child development intervention that allows children to thrive through transforming and expanding enabling environments through responsive and sensitive caregiving. While it is universally accepted that sensitive and responsive caregiving leads to positive cognitive and socio-emotional outcomes for children, several intervention approaches exist, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The current volume brings together the rationale and current evidence base for the Mediational Intervention for Sensitizing Caregivers (MISC).

We are excited to bring together for the first time in one volume the theory and evidence supporting the MISC approach, across different countries and settings. Our hope is that this volume will stimulate further research evaluating additional adaptations of the MISC approach. We also hope that this volume will provide an important foundation for those wishing to implement MISC in their clinical, educational or community-based settings.

Book release is planned for Fall 2021
